Why You Need a Plan for Your Content
Hey, I’m Kary Perry—brand strategist, business coach, and your friendly antidote to content chaos. I’ve helped over 500 entrepreneurs build six-figure content systems that attract, nurture, and convert—without burnout. And here’s the truth: most of us don’t have a content problem. We have a content planning problem.
I learned that the hard way.
For years, I lived in creative chaos—constantly “showing up,” constantly thinking, constantly chasing the next idea. My phone was full of half-written captions, saved audios, and random post ideas that never saw the light of day. And yet, my results were flat.
Because when you don’t have a plan, every piece of content feels urgent. You’re always reacting, never creating. You spend hours every week trying to figure out what to post instead of posting what matters.
Creative burnout doesn’t happen because you’re lazy. It happens because you’re operating without direction. When you don’t know what’s coming next, your brain stays in survival mode—and you can’t create from survival mode.
Having a plan gives your creativity boundaries. It turns chaos into clarity. It shifts content creation from something you dread to something that finally works.
So, let’s walk through how I do it. This is my 90-minute method—and if you follow along, you’ll walk away from this blog with your next month of content mapped out.
Step 1: Simplify (30 Minutes)
Set a timer for 30 minutes. This first phase cuts through the noise and decides what you actually want to talk about. If you don’t know your focus, no amount of planning will fix the confusion.
Start with clarity—define your content pillars. Think of them as the three to five conversations your brand will lead online: the things you want to be known for, the topics that connect directly to your audience’s needs and your offers.
When I first started, I talked about everything—business tips, marketing hacks, motherhood, mindset, random life updates. It was exhausting. My audience didn’t know what to expect, and honestly, neither did I. Once I simplified to a few consistent themes, everything changed. My message got clearer, my audience grew faster, and creating content became ten times easier.
Our brains crave patterns. When your content bounces around, people can’t figure out what you actually do. Repeat consistent themes and your audience begins to associate you with a specific transformation—that’s how trust is built.
✨ YOUR ACTION STEP:
Now, grab your notes or planner and list every topic you’ve posted about in the last few weeks. Circle the ones that directly connect to your business and offers—that’s your foundation.
Those are your pillars. Don’t stop there: brainstorm three to five topic ideas under each pillar.
For Example:
If one pillar is “Brand Story,” subtopics could include your origin story, client transformations, your why, and brand values.
If another is “Sales Strategy,” subtopics might be pricing mindset, client objections, sales page tips, or DM conversations. You now have structure with room to play. This step is about simplifying what you’re saying—don’t talk about everything you know; talk about what your audience needs most.
Step 2: Align (30 Minutes)
With topics set, align each post with a purpose.
Every post should have a job: attract, nurture, or convert. This simple social sales funnel is the backbone of a profitable content strategy.
Attract posts bring new eyes to your brand—strong opinions, relatable stories, and mini-teachings that make someone think, “I needed this.”
Nurture posts deepen connection—belief-shifting ideas, personal stories, and “I see you” moments that build trust.
Convert posts move people to action—offer invites, proof of transformation, clear next steps like joining your list, enrolling in your program, or booking a call.
Most entrepreneurs post randomly and wonder why nothing moves. If your content doesn’t have a job, it can’t do the work.
✨ YOUR ACTION STEP:
Pull up your topic list and label each idea: Attract, Nurture, or Convert. “Behind-the-scenes of my process” is Nurture.
For example:
- “Common mistakes entrepreneurs make” → Attract
- “Behind-the-scenes of my process” → Nurture
- “Client results or testimonials” → Convert
Suddenly you’ve got a content map that moves people through your funnel without reinventing the wheel every week. If it’s not attracting, nurturing, or converting—it’s just filling space.
Step 3: Batch (30 Minutes)
Now we execute. Take everything you mapped out and turn it into a simple, sustainable plan. Set a 30-minute timer and batch by format.
Look at each idea and ask, “What’s the best way to deliver this message?”
Some ideas belong in a Reel—short, visual, personal. Others are perfect for a carousel—step-by-step teaching. Some need to be a longer caption—story-driven, reflective, emotional. Others fit beautifully in Stories or a live—raw, real, conversational.
✨ YOUR ACTION STEP:
Assign each post a format and jot it down.
Now you’ve got your next 30 days planned: ten Attract posts, ten Nurture posts, ten Convert posts—each tied to your pillars, each with a clear goal, each ready to go.
Batching removes the daily “what do I post?” panic. You’re no longer creating under pressure—you’re creating with intention. Your brain thrives in focus mode; one focused session beats seven scattered ones.
